Kamilla Szíj’s practice is defined by minimalism, reduction, and a radical focus on the line as the basic element of drawing. Rejecting narrative, colour, and even titles, she creates abstract works that emphasize process, perception, and the viewer’s freedom of interpretation.

Starting with printmaking and reproducible graphic techniques, she treated printing plates as independent units before turning to unique pencil and drypoint
drawings. These often expand into installations, understood as drawings extended into space. Working through repetition and carefully constructed systems, Szíj develops dense, web-like structures composed of lines, points, and rhythmic variations. Her method is both highly systematic and intuitive, requiring patience, precision, and long, physically demanding processes. The resulting works explore tensions such as order and chaos, reduction and abundance, and micro- and macrocosm, reflecting inner
processes rather than external reality.

Influenced by music, as well as scientific and philosophical ideas—especially in the field of physics—her works aim to produce a direct, almost physical impact on the viewer, similar to the effect of sound.
She studied visual communication in Offenbach am Main and later earned her DLA at the Hungarian University of Fine Arts in 2017. Her works have been widely exhibited in Hungary and internationally, and are held in several public collections.
