Founded in 2025, SchugarRotariu is a gallery with locations in Frankfurt (Germany) and Cluj (Romania) presenting contemporary art of international artists with focus on Eastern Europe. SchugarRotariu sees itself as a platform for artists who work at the interfaces of past and future, link local narratives with global discourses and look at social and personal issues from a new perspective.

Founded by Olimpia Schugar and Francisca Rotariu, the gallery is the result of many years of exchange with the art scene in this region and relies on close cooperation with artists – both within the classic exhibition format and in the form of site-specific projects, publications and collaborations with institutions and independent initiatives.

SchugarRotariu is not a static space, but a dynamic concept that is oriented towards the changes in the art world. The gallery questions existing hierarchies, experiments with alternative forms of communication and focuses on a dialogue between different disciplines – from visual art to performance to theory and sound. In Frankfurt as well as in Cluj, SchugarRotariu serves as a bridge between different art scenes and opens up new perspectives on the aesthetic and social developments in Central and Eastern Europe.
