Radu Comsa´s practice expands the traditional parameters of painting, incorporating diverse materials such as concrete, paper, fabric, wood, plastic and metal.

His works suggest that painting, understood as compositions of colored shapes, is omnipresent in our surroundings.

Through digressions, extractions and references, Comsa creates „transcriptions“, shifting between materials, forms and conceptual frameworks. These transformations reflect his thought process, turning the artwork into an intellectual replica of his ideas. His diagrammatic transcriptions, ranging from cast concrete plates to sewn fabric panels, are deeply influenced by modernist architecture, concrete poetry and atonal music. These visual morphemes interact, collide and generate new layers of meaning.

Radu Comșa (b. 1975, Sibiu, Romania) lives and works in Cluj-Napoca, Romania.

A monograph on Radu Comșa has been recently published by Mousse Publishing (2024). Edited by Nicola Trezzi, the 112-page volume brings together the vast production of the Romanian artist, featuring critical essays, archival materials, and extensive visual documentation.
